He’s been better at recall lately: over the weekend we went to the beach
twice and while he wasn’t PERFECT at coming when we called, he was a lot
better and always came in the end. One time he ran off in our general
direction and only focused on us once he got closer, which seemed to
imply he was so far away he couldn’t see us. We’ll work on calling him
to us before he gets nearly out of earshot.
He’s also been good at the dog park, now walking with me as I walk to
the exit and going in without being told. He gets some cheese every
time! I’ve also been rewarding his check-ins with cheese and yesterday
he ran up in the middle of play, sat down in front of me, got his
cheese, and ran off. It was really good!
Last night I gave him a bath and then fed him dinner right afterwards.
He was in post-bath freakout mode and didn’t want to lie down for “on
your mat” but eventually did and at the end was doing it reliably
again. He just needed his brain to re-engage!
This morning he didn’t eat his breakfast and then went downstairs to
puke up some bile - it was my fault, I didn’t notice he wasn’t eating
and didn’t notice he left. He was trying to get outside when he felt pukey!
